As this campaign comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve shared together. This campaign was always about building a community-centered movement, and every step of the way, I was inspired by the dedication, generosity, and resilience of each of you who stood with me.
First and foremost, to the volunteers who walked neighborhood streets, knocked on doors, made countless phone calls, and showed up rain or shine—you are the heart of this campaign. Every conversation you had with a neighbor, every story you shared, and every moment you gave made an indelible impact. You brought this campaign to life with your energy and commitment to San Mateo.
To our postcard writers, thank you for pouring your passion into each message. Sending those handwritten notes to voters was about reaching people personally, and you made our vision resonate in homes across District 2.
To our generous donors, your support sustained us through this journey, giving us the resources we needed to share our message and connect with the community. I’m deeply grateful for your investment in a shared vision of a better San Mateo.
A special thanks to some of the people who went above and beyond: Adriana Fernandez, Giselle Alvarez, Robert and Teri Whitehair, Imelda Navarro, and Reina Gonzalez, among so many others. Your unwavering belief in this campaign kept me motivated and filled with hope, even on the most challenging days. I couldn’t have done this without you.
Although the election results weren’t what we hoped for, my commitment to District 2 and all of San Mateo remains as strong as ever. I am determined to continue advocating for affordable housing, sustainable infrastructure, community safety, and equitable opportunities for all. I’ve learned so much from this experience and from each of you, and I am more inspired than ever to work toward the future we envisioned together.
Thank you for being part of this journey. This campaign was just the beginning of our work, and I look forward to continuing to stand alongside each of you as we build the San Mateo we all deserve. Together, we will make a difference.
With deep gratitude,
Dr. Charles Hansen
