San Mateo, CA – July 11, 2024 – Charles Hansen, San Mateo City Council candidate who aims to be the first Black man elected to leadership in the City’s 130 years. Hansen’s campaign launched on Juneteenth and succeeded in raising over $11,000 with powerful community-based momentum.
Hansen is thrilled to invite supporters, friends, and neighbors to his official campaign kickoff event on August 4th, welcoming the community to get to know him, “I am opening the door to listen and build bridges with my neighbors because their voices and perspectives belong in City Hall.”
The campaign kickoff event will be held at the King Center from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. This gathering will be an opportunity for residents to meet Charles Hansen, discuss important local issues, and learn more about his vision for the future of San Mateo.
Hansen has already garnered significant neighborhood support and is the only candidate endorsed by North Central leaders, Supervisor Corzo, Councilwoman Amourence Lee, and Ms. Gloria Brown. Founder of the African American Community Health Advisory Council and pioneer of Project Guardian, Ms. Brown endorsed, “The community is uniting around Charles because he’s an inspiring leader who will truly make a difference for our North Central and North Shoreview neighborhoods and make history for San Mateo.”
Hansen also announced a new endorsement from key education leaders. President of the San Mateo County Board of Education, Chelsea Bonini, said, “Charles Hansen is deeply connected to the community and understands the needs of San Mateo’s families and children. His collaborative leadership on our Council in support of equitable access to childcare and housing will be essential to ensuring that San Mateo remains inclusive and welcoming for working families and all those who support our City’s infrastructure and economy.” Shara Watkins, former President of the San Mateo-Foster City School Board. Watkins praised Hansen, stating, “Charles Hansen gets what it means to raise a family here and is a true champion for our schools and education. His dedication and personal experience as a parent make him the perfect choice to support our kids and community.”
